A Guide To 2018 School Terms, School Holidays and Public Holidays

It’s time to start planning your family trips for 2018! The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced next year’s school terms and school holidays; the school year will start on Tuesday, 2 Jan 2018 and end on Friday, 16 Nov 2018.

School Terms for Primary and Secondary Schools:

Semester 1

Term 1: 2 Jan 2018 Tuesday – 9 March 2018 Friday

Term 2: 19 March 2018 Monday  – 25 May 2018 Friday

Semester 2

Term 3: 25 June 2018, Monday – 31 Aug 2018 Friday

Term 4: 10 Sept 2018, Monday – 16 Nov 2018 Friday*

*The last day of the final school term for schools that will be used as venues for the GCE O-Level written examinations will be 26 Oct 2018 (Friday).

School Vacation for Primary and Secondary Schools:

Between Terms 1 & 2: 10 March 2018 Saturday – 18 March 2018 Sunday

Between Semesters 1 & 2: 26 May 2018 Saturday – 24 June 2018 Sunday

Between Terms 3 & 4: 1 Sept 2018 Saturday – 9 Sept 2018 Sunday

At the end of the school year: 17 Nov 2018 Saturday – 31 Dec 2018 (Saturday)

Scheduled School Holidays for Primary and Secondary Schools:

Youth Day: 1 July 2018 Sunday –  2 July 2018 Monday will be a scheduled school holiday.

Day after National Day: 10 Aug 2018 Friday

Teachers’ Day: 31 Aug 2018 Friday

Childrens’ Day: 5 Oct 2018 Friday

Public Holidays 

Term 1

New Year’s Day: 1 Jan 2018 Monday

Chinese New Year: 16-17 Feb 2018 Friday – Saturday. 19 Feb 2018 Monday will be a school holiday.

Term 2

Good Friday: 30 March 2018 Friday

Labour Day: 1 May 2018 Tuesday

Vesak Day: 29 May 2018 Tuesday

Term 3

Hari Raya Puasa: 15 June 2018 Friday

National Day: 9 Aug 2018 Thursday

Term 4

Hari Raya Haji: 22 Aug 2018 Wednesday

Deepavali: 6 Nov 2018 Tuesday

Christmas Day: 25 Dec 2018 Tuesday

If you are planning a weekend getaway, there are 4 long weekends on New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year, Good Friday and Hari Raya Puasa. Don’t forget the kids will have 19 Feb 2018, Monday off after Chinese New Year, so you can apply for leave on Monday for a longer trip. Also, they will have 2 July 2018 Monday off because of Youth Day, so you can take that Monday off to go on a short holiday on that weekend in case leave on more popular dates get snapped up!
