Important Dates To Note For Primary 1 Registration

It can usually be a pretty confusing and hectic process when it comes time to register your child for primary school. To help ease the process, here are the important dates, phases, and necessary procedures to note before registration.

Before beginning the registration process, here are a few key points to remember:

As parents of children who are Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents, you will be eligible for the Phase 1 to 3 registration. Foreign students will only be eligible for Phase 3. 

Phase 1

Who: For a child who has a sibling studying in the primary school of choice

Registration dates:
3 and 4 July 2019 (Wednesday and Thursday)

How to register:
Parents may submit the registration form and relevant documents through the older sibling who will be given the form by the school. 

Announcement of registration results:
All children registered under this phase will be given places in the respective school they’ve applied for.

Phase 2A(1)

Who: 
(a) For a child whose parent is a former student of the primary school, and who has joined the alumni association as a member not later than 30 June 2018
(b) For a child whose parent is a member of the school advisory or management committee

Registration date: 9 July 2019 (Tuesday)

How to register: 

  • Registration is conducted at the primary school of your choice
  • The hours of registration are from 8am to 11am, and from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Parents are to submit the registration form (given at the school during registration), together with the required documents. 
  • In the event that parents are not available on the day of registration, they are allowed to authorise a guardian (with the authorisation letter) to register on their behalf. 

Announcement of registration results: 12 July 2019 (Friday)

Phase 2A(2)

Who:
(a) For a child whose parent or sibling has studied in the primary school of choice
(b) For a child whose parent is a staff member of the primary school of choice
(c) For a child from the MOE Kindergarten under the purview of and located within the primary school of choice

Registration dates: 15 and 16 July 2019 (Monday and Tuesday)

How to register: 

  • Registration is conducted at the primary school of your choice
  • The hours of registration are from 8am to 11am, and from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Parents are to submit the registration form (given at the school during registration), together with the required documents. 
  • In the event that parents are not available on the day of registration, they are allowed to authorise a guardian (with the authorisation letter) to register on their behalf. 

Announcement of registration results: 19 July 2019 (Friday)

Phase 2B

Who: 
(a) For a child whose parent has joined the primary school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 July 2018 and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by 30 June 2019
(b) For a child whose parent is a member endorsed by the church / clan directly connected with the primary school
(c) For a child whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader

Registration dates: 22 and 23 July 2019 (Monday and Tuesday)

How to register: 

  • Registration is conducted at the primary school of your choice
  • The hours of registration are from 8am to 11am, and from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Parents are to submit the registration form (given at the school during registration), together with the required documents. 
  • In the event that parents are not available on the day of registration, they are allowed to authorise a guardian (with the authorisation letter) to register on their behalf.

Registration results: 26 July 2019 (Friday)

Phase 2C

Who: For all children who are eligible for Primary One in the following year and are not yet registered in a primary school

  • The hours of registration are from 8am to 11am, and from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Parents are to submit the registration form (given at the school during registration), together with the required documents. 
  • In the event that parents are not available on the day of registration, they are allowed to authorise a guardian (with the authorisation letter) to register on their behalf.

Announcement of registration results: 7 August 2019 (Wednesday)

Phase 2C Supplementary

Who: For a child who is not yet registered in a primary school after Phase 2C

Registration dates:

How to register: 

  • Registration is conducted at the primary school of your choice
  • The hours of registration are from 8am to 11am, and from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Parents are to submit the registration form (given at the school during registration), together with the required documents. 
  • In the event that parents are not available on the day of registration, they are allowed to authorise a guardian (with the authorisation letter) to register on their behalf.

Announcement of registration results: 21 August 2019 (Wednesday)

*IMPORTANT NOTE: Balloting is conducted when the number of registrants exceeds the school vacancies, and can happen at any phase (2A(1) to 2C Supplementary) of the Primary One Registration Exercise except for Phase 1. Computerised balloting will be conducted centrally by MOE where priority admission to a Primary One spot in a school will be given to children in this order:

1. Singapore Citizens living within 1km of the school
2. Singapore Citizens living between 1km and 2km of the school
3. Singapore Citizens living outside 2km of the school
4. Permanent Residents living within 1km of the school  
5. Permanent Residents living between 1km and 2km of the school
6. Permanent Residents living outside 2km of the school

Phase 3

All non-Singapore Citizens / non-Permanent Resident children are required to first submit an online indication of interest form from 4 June to 10 June 2019 in order to be eligible for this phase.

Who: ONLY for non-Singapore Citizens / non-Permanent Resident children who have indicated their interest and are informed by MOE in October 2019 that they can be offered a Primary One placement.

Registration period: in October 2019

How to register:

  • Registration is conducted at the primary school of your choice
  • The hours of registration are from 8am to 11am, and from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Parents are to submit the registration form (given at the school during registration), together with the required documents. 
  • In the event that parents are not available on the day of registration, they are allowed to authorise a guardian (with the authorisation letter) to register on their behalf.

Announcement of registration results: by 31 October 2019 (Thursday)

In the event of unsuccessful registration

If your child is unsuccessful in any phase of the Primary One Registration Exercise, you can register your child again in the next phase that you are eligible for. 

If your child is unsuccessful in Phase 2C Supplementary, he or she will be posted to a school with available vacancy. You will be informed of the outcome on the results announcement day through SMS.
