5 Ways of Giving Back to Society During the Giving Week

The national giving movement Giving Week, organised by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) is back for the third edition, running from 28 November to 5 December 2017. In an effort to invite everyone who wishes to do some good, the Giving Week has a full line-up of activities for you to do your part.

Operation Shoebox

Operation Shoebox is an initiative by Society Staples for the community to spread the joy of giving to Persons with Disabilities in an easy, fuss-free and streamlined manner. You can put together a shoebox of items worth $20 for children with special needs according to three themes, Play, Learn and Do, and drop it at Sports Hub Library or Pope Jai Thai at *SCAPE, during Giving Week. These gifts will then be sorted and sent out to receiving partners, adding happiness and colours to the lives of these children.

Christmas Open House @ St Luke’s ElderCare

St Luke’s ElderCare (SLEC) Keat Hong Centre and Bukit Panjang Gospel Chapel will be organising a Christmas Open House for the public on 2 December 2017. Highlights of the open house include Christmas carolling, carnival games & food, song & dance performances, and a tour of SLEC’s 15th and newest centre, Keat Hong Centre. Those interested to find out how they can give to SLEC, as a volunteer or donor can approach SLEC staff directly for more information.

Deutsche Bank Christmas Charity Bazaar

Deutsche Bank will bring festive cheer and goodwill to One Raffles Quay, South Tower, with Christmas carolling and performances by Caregivers’ Alliance and Life Community Services Society at their annual Christmas Charity Bazaar. Employees from Deutsche Bank will also showcase their talents on stage with popular songs specially for the community beneficiaries in the audience. There will be booths set up to sell hand-crafted Christmas gifts and goodies to raise funds.

Christmas Giving Tree @ Motherswork

The annual Motherswork giving tree event will be bringing joy to families who are less fortunate, by fulfilling the Christmas wishes of single parents and children under the care of the various charity organisations. The aim is to inspire kids to understand giving from a young age. Wishes will be hung on the Christmas trees in all Motherswork retail stores.

FairPrice Online is collaborating with the Boys’ Brigade for their Share-a-Gift campaign. Celebrating 30 Years of Giving, The Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift (BBSG) campaign is a national community service project that promotes the spirit of caring and sharing among Singaporeans during Christmas. Reaching out to more than 42,000 beneficiaries this year, the project appeals for donations of food items that include halal canned food, rice, instant noodles, beverages, biscuits, cooking oil and condiments. Donors can donate at 12 selected NTUC FairPrice stores and FairPrice Online.
