An intelligent thinker, an eloquent speaker, a confident presenter, and an innovative problem solver: these are the many hats a future-ready child can wear.
To nurture a future-ready child, Mulberry Learning employs a holistic curriculum that integrates the best of globally recognised pedagogies: Habits of Mind, Reggio Emilia, and Multiple Intelligences. Established in 2006, the award-winning Reggio-inspired preschool brand has 11 locations island-wide, with four more centres opening in 2021.
Habits of Mind
A child’s formative years are exceptionally important as this is the period when they learn appropriate behaviours, boundaries, and social skills that will remain with them for life. Especially when the world is becoming increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous, these ways of coping with problems are budding indicators of how they would perform in future.
Just as how influential people demonstrates positive traits like persistence and innovation, the Habits of Mind framework helps instill intelligent thinking habits in children, enabling them to be more confident when confronted with difficulties. While the Habits of Mind framework has long been adopted by Singapore’s Ministry of Education to groom the top 1% of students under its Gifted Education Programme, Mulberry Learning is the first and only preschool network globally certified by the Institute for Habits of Mind.
Though these 12 habits may seem a lot for a young child, Mulberry Learning equips them with one habit every month using age-appropriate catchy slogans and reiterated through formal teaching, teachable moments outside of class, parental involvement, and by placing visual reminders like posters all around the preschool!
Reggio Emilia, regarded by education experts as the only global pedagogy able to truly ignite a child’s love for learning due to its child-directed approach, complements the Habits of Mind and shapes the way Mulberry Learning crafts their learning environment and programmes. Unlike the usual top-down instructional approach where students’ learning is often planned for them, the Reggio Emilia approach acknowledges children as capable active constructors of knowledge and places emphasis on a child’s curiosity, interests, sensory experiences, surroundings, and social relationships.
As such, the entire preschool is carefully crafted to encourage children to explore, discover, and learn. Specially-designed learning spaces like the Imaginary Playscape enable children to explore the world through different perspectives. Make-believe play stimulates their imagination and helps to develop their social and language capabilities as they collaborate, cooperate, and communicate with their peers.
Apart from the wondrous learning spaces, Mulberry Learning also enables children to become little scientists in the Reggio-Inspired Project Inquiry programme, as children research in their choice of topic, conduct experiments, unravel important findings, and present them to their peers—all these with the goal of enhancing a child’s confidence and love for learning.
At Mulberry Learning, children are given opportunities to explore their various intelligences. The wide range of hands-on activities tap into a child’s bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, while the extensive enrichment programmes nurture their spatial, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal intelligences.
Not forgetting to enhance a child’s linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences, Mulberry Learning teaches its core signature programmes like Literacy Fun, Chinese Master, and Math Quest to equip children with the knowledge and skills in preparation for their Primary school years. By age 6, children will be able to acquire an expressive vocabulary of more than 4,500 English words and 2,000 Chinese words, master over 80 Chinese idioms, and can recite 16 Chinese poems.
Complementing the core learning programmes are its comprehensive (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) S.T.E.A.M enrichment like Busy Baker, Music Mooves, Little Newton, and Picasso Kidz to hone children’s creativity as well as problem-solving and critical thinking skills—all while having fun!
Mulberry Learning caters to infants aged 2 to 17 months and children aged 18 months to 6 years through the following programmes: Infant Care, Pre-Nursery, Nursery 1 and 2, and Kindergarten 1 and 2.
